Abstract:

The research paper deals with the investigation results of ferromagnetic wire use for wireless power transfer (WPT). Two groups of coils with a different size, winding material (copper and iron), and conductor cross-sectional areas were developed. Resistance and inductance of coils was evaluated, taking into account that iron is a ferromagnetic material, but copper – a diamagnetic material. It was found that there is substantial increase in coil inductance the when iron wire was used – by almost 20 % at 20 kHz, and by 7 % at 150 kHz, in comparison with the same type copper coil operating at the same frequency. A trend of impedance increase with increase of operation frequency was observed for both types of coils, but for the ferromagnetic material coil it was much more substantial – by more than 9 % when the frequency increased from 20 kHz to 150 kHz. Signs of Giant Magnetic Impedance (GMI) were observed there also - with current increase through the windings, impedance and inductance of the ferromagnetic coil increased, but for the diamagnetic coil – decreased. The Research results indicate that further investigation of ferromagnetic material use in wireless energy transfer coils is necessary, as this could allow increasing the coil inductance in WET resonance circuits, thus decreasing the requirements for the capacitance and potentially increasing the power transfer intensity.

The article deals with the common problem of wireless energy transfer due to transmission coils misalignment, which creates substantial drift from the resonant frequency, and instability and low efficiency as a result. Research and tests of wireless energy transmission system prototype with full-scale transmission coils using the principle described assure that the method of adjusting the resonant frequency by using multi-capacitors circuit controlled allows to stabilize and fine-tune resonance frequency

Abstract:

This paper describes the initial findings of research project “The Possibilities of Increasing Efficiency of City Bus Hybrid Propulsion Systems by Including Wireless Battery Charging” carried out by „LEO Research Centre” (Competency Centre for Latvian Electrical and Optical Manufacturing Industry). The project is aimed at developing wireless charging and optimising electric bus propulsion system for modern urban transportation applications.

Abstract:

The paper is devoted to using of DD inductance coils for the wireless power transfer. The aim of the given research is to determine influence of the parameters of resonance transformer on the efficiency of the wireless power transfer with the use of the DD inductance coils. Experimental installation of the wireless power transfer by a resonance inductive method was constructed. Experiments were performed with it help. Research results show influence of the distance between the coils of inductance, of the resonance transformer frequency, of the storage source voltage and of the temperature conditions on the efficiency of the wireless power transfer.

Abstract:

Informational processes and communication network structure for V2G systems are considered on the bases of ISO/IEC 15118 standard. If WPT technology is used and vehicles are in motion wireless data transfer network must present and restrictions for data packets delivery to be analyzed. For standard wireless technologies 802.11, 802.15.1 the estimations of minimal possible delays of packets are made. The variants of wireless communication network for WPT-V2G system and moving objects are proposed.

Abstract:

The research paper is devoted to the research results of public bus energy consumption and potential transition to electric drive, as well as to the development requirements of semi-dynamic charging for bus additional energy supply. The research object – bus Ambassador 200 produced in Latvia was chosen, and the research in energy consumption took place during January...March – the months with potentially highest energy consumption (winter – spring). Energy consumption investigation revealed high efficiency of the bus in the city cycle – just 2.86 kWh per kilometer. Simulation of bus transit to electric drive was provided, and introduction of different energy recuperation strategies allowed to reduce the energy consumption in electric drive to 0.42-0.99 kWh/km. Bus equipped with such electric driving system can cover 200-300 m distance using the energy received from semi-dynamic charging system.

During 2014-2015 TransfoElectric carried out research project “Research on possibilities of increasing power of wireless power transmission for electric vehicle charging applications” which focused on possibilities to increase wireless energy transfer power and distance by using cutting edge magnetic field enhancement technologies, specifically looking at magnetic resonance and metamaterials. As a result, TransfoElectric successfully developed advanced wireless energy transfer technology based on combined high frequency (1-4MHz) magnetic inductance and magnetic resonance.

Abstract:

The paper is focusing on the research of the influence of road construc- tion materials on magnetic field dispersion and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) efficiency. During the research samples of the road surfaces were created using most widely used road surface construction materials in Latvia and the test bench was built in accordance with SAE J2954. The influence of asphalt and concrete road surface materials on the magnetic field of the transmitting coil of the WPT system at a frequency of 85 kHz was investigated. It was determined that effi- ciency dropped with NaCl solution on concrete road surface.

Abstract:

A new type of inexpensive and easily deployable microgrid management system is being developed for optimization of grid transmission for outlying small energy consumers who occasionally need high power levels for short time periods. Initial research and preliminary analysis of a pilot project was carried out to determine the parameters of the system. The available historical data for PV production and energy consumption were collected and analyzed and energy flow profiles were developed. The algorithm of energy flow priorities was created for the energy shortage coverage from combined use of PV and battery storage system. The worst-case scenario was analyzed to prevent critical system failures. The simulations determined that the pilot site grid connection power level can be safely halved by installing 36kW PV power combined with 24kWh EV battery pack for energy storage.

Abstract:

The paper discusses the principles of building uninterruptible power supply systems for backup energy provision for remote or stand-alone energy consumers with inclusion of renewable energy sources. This paper describes the characteristics of inverters with direct connection to the power grid, the criteria for the efficiency of the uninterruptible power supply power system. Based on the analysis of the features of the operation of the main types of uninterruptible power supply units, the principle of building an efficient uninterruptible power supply system based on a converter with direct connection to the electrical grid controlled by a digital system with tracking of the maximum power consumption point is justified. The technical characteristics of the power system were determined and evaluated, the conceptual diagrams of the control device of the energy system of uninterrupted power supply and the algorithms of its operation were developed. The proposed solutions are tested experimentally by the technical implementation of the developed schemes.
